Yet Another Mobile Phone Landmark

According to GSM World, the number of mobile phone connections worldwide crossed the 2 billion mark on Sunday, the 18th of September. This means that the number of users has doubled since 2002, when the 1 billion user mark was breached. As you can imagine, most of the growth is coming from the developing world.

In India, the mobile subscriber base has increased to 63 million. About 2.74 million new lines subscribers were added in the month of August, compared to 2.5 million new lines subscribers in July. Amazing, these new numbers. Even the market in Pakistan has been growing at a rapid clip, with the total subscriber base crossing 15.5 million in August.
